Claire Culwell’s birth mother found out she was pregnant at the young age of thirteen, thinking she was carrying only one baby in her womb. Claire’s mother grew up in a broken home and her mother forced her to get an abortion at five months. Claire’s mother believed the abortion was successful, so she continued on with her life. But four weeks later, a friend told her something seemed off and said she should go back to the doctor. That’s when she found out she was still pregnant. Claire survived, but unfortunately, her twin did not. Just two weeks later, Claire was born. She weighed only three pounds, two ounces and suffered from clubbed feet and dislocated hips due to the abortion of her twin. Claire’s mother put her up for adoption. She spent two and a half months in the hospital on life support.
After being released from the hospital, complications from the abortion still affected Claire. She had to have casts to correct her clubbed feet and a harness on her hips to help put them back into place. For the next couple years, Claire was put into several casts, even body casts, to help put her back together. She says “My life is a testimony that there are wonderful alternatives to abortion (such as adoption in my case) and an accident/unwanted child still deserves life, even a child with disabilities...The abortion still affects me today. All that to say, life is still worth it. If my life can touch just one person who has had an abortion or considering an abortion or adoption, then I am fulfilling my purpose in the pro-life movement.” (liveactionnews.org)
I do not support abortion. I believe it is murder and takes away the life of an innocent baby who had no choice and no chance at life. I chose this topic because I want to write my views and opinions about abortion, I also want to give information about all the risks and negative effects that come with abortion. This topic is important because, not only are the babies being negatively affected, the mothers also are. There are several physical and psychological problems that can affect the mother. Why should expecting mothers considering abortion look for other options?
