Carefree summer days are of utmost importance. Playing hide-and-seek with neighborhood friends, drinking fresh lemonade, running through the sprinkler, and catching lightning bugs after dark are just a few summer traditions that people nowadays simply do not have time for. Waking up without having anywhere to go, anyone to see, or any task to complete is a luxury that many people cannot afford to enjoy. People are so over-scheduled that even the amount of family time spent together has decreased. The average family spends just thirty-six minutes together per day. Not only does over-scheduling increase stress, but it decreases the amount of time children have to play.

The average child’s schedule does not allow enough time for him to enjoy the simple pastime of playing with toys. With basketball practice, student council, dance team, science club, and everything else that children actively participate in, it is a miracle that some children even know what a Barbie doll is. Playing with toys encourages children to use their imagination. Children create families, names, personalities, and life stories for their dolls or action figures. Little girls develop motherly tendencies by playing with toy babies. Little boys learn about cars, trucks, and trains by playing with their toys. Board games expand the mind by challenging children, and they also encourage the development of a healthy sense of competition.
