Based on your view of the objectives of performance evaluation, evaluate the perspectives about performance appraisal presented by the managers.
Appraisal process starts with the evaluation. After the appraisal it comes the reward and encouragement of effort and ability. There are many problems in the evaluation system that been presented by the managers. The issue that occurs is its ability to motivate, push an employee out of the company or just keep everything stable. Because of the argument he gives me bad mark and also don’t want to renew my contract with the company. I felt unfairly judged and I make a decision to resign from that company. From my opinion the system is not perfect, but it can be upgraded.
In your opinion, at what point does “fine-tuning” evaluations become unacceptable distortion?
Fine tuning can be a problem when the managers not accurately grading his or her employees. Fine tuning can become unacceptable distortion when a manager adjusting or give marks to set his employee for termination in the future. Sometimes the managers also use it to help the employee and give them a better mark than they should deserve. According to Ivancevich, Konopaske, Matteson, 2011 the purpose of evaluation is the “provide information about work performance”. Fine-tuning can become a problem when the manager is trying to use the system in order to help the employee get the unjustified bonus to try and motivate them. Fine-tuning can also be distorted when the manager wants to transfer the problem employee to another department and avoid problem-solving the matter’s that arise.
Assume you are the vice president of human resources at Eckel Industries and that you are aware that fine-tuning evaluations is a prevalent practice among Eckel managers. If you disagree with this perspective, what steps would you take to reduce the practice?
