Another positive aspect of using social media is that “some people simply find it hard to relate to the people around them. Internet social networks can help people find like-minded individuals and make connections” (Carey). “It has been suggested that shy and socially isolated individuals communicate more on the internet because it provides some protection from anxiety” (Birnie & Horvath). Real-time information sharing is another positive effect of social media. “Many social networking sites incorporate an instant messaging feature, which means you can exchange information in real-time via a chat” (Cosmato).
