Geometry is the math of the world. It has developed through art and architecture and is an integral part of society. It has helped develop security systems. However, one of the most important parts of Geometry is the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem is the most important because it is one of the most commonly used theorems in Geometry and in all of math. The Pythagorean Theorem is as old as Geometry itself. It was developed by the Egyptians and Chinese and finalized by a Greek philosopher Pythagoras. It can also help solve many real world problems. The real question is why the Pythagorean Theorem was named after Pythagoras. Historians have confirmed that he was not the only one to develop it. They cannot prove that he was not influenced by the Egyptians or Chinese. Since his society was so secretive historians also cannot prove if one of Pythagoras’ followers actually developed it. One possible reason that it could have been named after him is he is the most recent philosopher to develop it and to use it. Although there is much evidence proving that the Egyptians and Chinese had developed the theorem, Pythagoras of Samos has been credited with being the author and has it named after him.

The Pythagorean Theorem has greatly influenced famous astronomers and mathematicians. Kepler is one astronomer who was greatly affected. Kepler lived from December 27, 1571 to November 15, 1630. Surprisingly Kepler was a Pythagorean. Kepler was obsessed with science and math and spent 30 years of his life seeking to discover the laws of planetary motion in musical harmony. Kepler even developed what is known as the Kepler Triangle. The Kepler Triangle is a right triangle formed by three squares with areas in geometric progression according to the golden ratio. The Pythagorean Theorem can be used on this triangle because it is a right triangle. Since Kepler was a member of Pythagoras’ secret society, he was greatly influenced by Pythagoras and has influenced the Pythagorean Theorem.

Euclid has been keyed as the father of modern geometry. One very important theorem in Euclidean Geometry is the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem is important only to Euclidian geometry because it cannot hold in non-Euclidian geometry. Euclid is also important because he helped prove the Pythagorean Theorem. He proved that in order for the equation to be true the triangle must be a right triangle. By proving this he helped find what are known as Pythagorean Triples. The way that Kepler and Euclid have been affected by and have affected the Pythagorean Theorem is unquestionably incredible.
