Almost everyone can say that they have had an experience with drugs, either it be with just witnessing it or using it. Throughout my life, I have had many bad experiences with drugs and it has taught me to stay away from them. Our society now somewhat looks up to the use of drug, with it being in the music industry or being in movies, it is in our culture and this could hurt us as a country down the road. Now, I’m not saying it is not okay to party once and awhile, but if a person is to party on a regular basis this could turn into an addiction to alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, and even caffeine. In all, there needs to be more facts and ads telling kids about these problems because they are our future and we have to set them up for success.
Our society today, definitely has a drug culture feel to it because of the music industry, film industry, and the overall attitude of the world helps mold the teens of today into thinking that it is okay to abuse drugs. Today, a person can rarely find a song that does not have a reference to smoking marijuana, taking prescription pills, or drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Within films, they are producing films about having the wildest parties, drinking with all your friends, and taking drugs without thinking about the consequences. The youth of today refer to partying as getting “turnt up”, which means “thee act of getting drunk and high to thee highest degree” said by Urban Dictionary. If this is the mindset of the future of this world, then we are all in for a rude awakening and need to address these matters fast.
Next, the personal experiences that I have had with illegal drugs and the drug society that we are labeled with. Within my family, addition runs extremely high and that is what gives me the incentive to distances myself away from drugs and alcohol because I run a high chance of being addicted to them. My mother lost a brother from liver failure because he was an alcoholic and frequently used drugs. Also, my mother dated a man, who was addicted to marijuana and alcohol, for at least ten years of my life and those times were possibly the most traumatic times of my life. Most nights, he would come home drunk and high and then they would fight throughout the night and I remember walking up scared about what would happen. The man my mom dated was the nicest and funniest guy when he didn’t drink, but when he drank everything changed. Those events showed me what could happen if a person became addicted to a substance and never seeks help to become clean from them.
The United States does have a growing problem with drug abuse, not only legal drugs but illegal drugs as well. According to Drug Free World, “results from the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health showed that 19.9 million Americans used illegal drugs in the month prior to the survey.” That statistic was only in a month prior to the survey and I do believe the number is probably higher now in 2014. When starting to use...
