Success is an event that accomplishes its intended purpose. Success can and does mean different things to different people. Most people agree that accomplishing the goals that they set for themselves is success. Mary’s idea of success is getting a good education, in a profession that interests her, and eventually landing a job in that profession.
Mary started on her road to success by doing the best she could do while she was in high school. While her friends were out at parties and at the mall shopping, she stayed home and studied. Her fellow classmates would make fun of her, but she did not let it get her down. When she graduated with honors, everyone told her how proud they were of her. Many of those people were the same people who had made fun of her studying habits throughout the years. Mary had such good grades she was accepted by many colleges. Mary chose to go to the University of Southern California.
Once arriving at her new college, Mary made many new friends. Friends that had the same goals and dreams she had, which made it a little easier on her. She focused really hard on her classes and homework, and once again was rewarded for her efforts, by making it on the dean’s list after a few short semesters. After getting all of her general education finished, she decided to declare her major in accounting. She continued to work hard. However, she did not realize just how hard it was going to be. She was struggling a bit, in a few of her classes, but continued to work as hard as she could.
After four long years, Mary decided she didn’t want to settle for a Bachelor’s degree. She decided to continue her education and obtain a Master’s degree. While Mary continued down her path to get the education that she desired, she had to make many sacrifices. Some sacrifices were small and some were large, but she kept her focus.
