This study primarily focused on examining the role of caregivers in language development within both children with prenatal or perinatal brain injury (BI) and typically developing children (TD). Previous research has shown that lesion characteristic played an important role on the adaptability of linguistic development in children with BI. However like TD children, children with BI tend to have easy compliance towards language development.

The last possible result was that children with BI would need more linguistic input compared to TD children. As stated by the study, “Such findings would indicate that augmentation from environment might be needed to offset early organic injury” (Eccles 2009, 90). The experiment was performed as a case study based on a small scale sample in the greater Chicago area. Surveys were sent out as well as adds in the paper asking for volunteers. Each volunteer was carefully selected after filling in a questionnaire. Each of the 80 families were picked based on various factors while some were rejected. Parent and child were visited and observed from age 14-to 46 months every four months. Data recorded included the amount spoke by the parent, the amount spoken by the child, and the clarity and complexity of the vocabulary.
Results indicate that the caregiver input is influential for vocabulary growth in all children whether they have BI or not. However caregiver input is much more substantial for syntactic growth in children with BI and in TD children. Altogether...
