Russia is a culture if full of many wonders. I will give a brief discussion on the Russian culture. This information text will cover the history, religion, customs, economy and military in Russia today.
Consolidation of the Russian State
Ivan III started the Russian states. Ivan first conquered Yaroslavl in 1463 and shortly after conquered Rostov-Suzdal in 1447. Four years later, he conquered Novgorod in 1478 and Tver in 1485. In 1497, he stops paying tribute to Tatar khanates of Kazan and adopted his first code of laws. The married the niece of the last Byzantine emperor and considered Moscow the third Rome and himself heir to the Byzantine Empire. When Ivan III died in 1505, Vasily III continued his conquest of unifying the nation and In the 1500s, Vastly conquered Pskov and Ryazan. By the end of the 14th century, he subjugated three other territories (Mari, Yurga and Komi) and conquered the Pechora and Karelians at the end of the 15th century. Vasily III died in 1533 and Ivan IV, also known as Ivan the Terrible, took control. At the age of 17, Ivan IV was crowned czar of all Russia. He established rule over the middle and lower Volga area after killing Tatar khanates of Kazan in 1552 and Astrakhan in 1556. In 1581, Yermak of Cossack colonized and annexed Siberia because of Ivan III’s victory over Tatar. Ivan then conquered the bordering territories and colonized by Russians and had it defended by Cossacks. Once home, Ivan crushed the opposition of the great feudal nobles (the boyars) and set up an autocratic government. Ivan III died in 1584 and Feodor I took over as czar. When Feodor fell sick in 1598, the zemsky sobor (national council) elected Boris Godunov the new czar. The Time of Troubles began after Boris’s death in 1605. It marked a political crisis by the appearance of pretenders and intervention of foreign powers. Sigismund III of Poland invaded Russia in 1609. The boyars agreed to let polish troops enter Moscow in 1610. In 1612, Prince Dmitri Pozharski led the Russians and took over Moscow and in 1613; the zemsky sobor chose Michael Romanov as czar. This began the Romanov dynasty. Michael died in 1645 and his successor was Alexis, who gained E Ukraine for Poland.
