Introduction

This is a report that will explore the scope of hardware and software that are currently in use within the tablet technology industry and the advances taking place. Fortunately, most modern processors can handle trillions of calculations per second.
It should be noted that there are 2 types of processor architecture (Goolab, 2014),
• 32-bit: can not support memory (RAM) up to 4GB
• 64 –bit: which is the latest architecture being used. It has an advantage over the 32-bit architecture, since it supports memory (RAM) greater than 4GB.

Memory (Random Access Memory)
• This is a temporary storage the tablet use to store data while it is being used. RAM is an area of memory in the tablet that the operating system and application programs, store data in current use so they can be fetched quickly by the tablet processor. RAMs are usually much faster to write to and read from that any other kinds of storage in the tablet (in fact it is the fastest). Storages which incudes the hard drive a much slower compared to the RAM (Scott, 2005). However, the data in RAM will only exists on the RAM as long as the tablet is running. Once the tablet is turned off (powered off completely), the RAM loses its data – volatile memory storage (Goolab, 2014). The bigger the memory, the more programs that can run simultaneously.

Storage
• This represents the more permanent memory option. This storage is not affected if the tablet is off or on, i.e. no loss of data occurs if the tablet is switched off. This memory usually holds all the data created by any installed program, the installed program itself and most importantly – the operating system. The type of storage devices found in most tablets is usually called ‘flash storage’.

Display
• This is usually attributed to the display properties of the tablets. This usually consists of the following:
• Resolution: Which means how many pixels in total make up the display screen. In the case of the tablets, it is clear that the Apple ipad mini has the most pixels, of 2048x1536, in its7.9 inch display, as compared to the others.
• Size (aspect ratio): The dimension of the screen.

Connectivity
• With this, a tablet is able to connect to a network. Since there are a number of connective technologies out there, it is important to know what type of wireless technology the tablet can connect to. There are different types, a, b, g and the latest, N technology. They all have their advantages in terms of speed and...
