The Feeling Makes The World Go Round

926 words - 4 pages

What really "makes the world round"? There is a song "Money makes the world go round". Some people tell me that nowadays material wealth is more important than love, that money can buy anything, and that we are living in a world of hatred and greed, but I do not think so. Hugh Grant, at the beginning of the film Love Actually, says: "Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow airport. General opinion makes out that we live in a world of hatred and greed but I don't see that. Seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy but it's always there: fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes it the Twin Towers, none of the phone calls from people on board were messages of hate or revenge, they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."What is the first thing you have when you come into being? That is love. What is the last thing that will go with you, forever, when you leave this world? Again, that is love. Nowadays, so many people think money is more important than love. People try to earn as much money as possible; they think that money can make them happy, that they can buy everything, including love, with money. No, we can not buy love, love has its own way to find us, but sometimes we refuse it. If material well-being leads to happiness, why is it while our society get richer, there are more and more people are becoming increasingly addicted to drugs for falling asleep, for waking up, for staying slim, for escaping boredom and depression? Why are suicides and loneliness such a problem in our society? We are losing our ways while struggling for happiness. To become a fulfilled human being is to reach out to other people, tasks, ideals, and to give and receive love. Material, just like our bodies, is temporary, and can not bring long happiness. Love is eternal, and brings us boundless and permanent happiness.Love is so great but then what love really is? Webster`s defines love as a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arsing from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or sense of underlying oneness. I do not know if I completely agree with that, but I can not find a perfect definition for love....
