The shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado killing thirteen students and teachers shocked the world. “They were video gamers who seemed to be acting out some dark digital fantasy. It was as if all that exposure to computerized violence gave them the idea to go on a rampage – or at least fueled their urges” (Carey 1). The shooters of this incident learned their deadly skills from video games. They were assigned to play a violent or nonviolent video game for twenty minutes of each of three consecutive days. Half of the students participated in playing violent mature games, and the other half played nonviolent games. After the consecutive playing of these games they had the students tested on their aggression. The students of each kind of game went head-to-head in a computer game. The loser of each trial would receive a blast of unpleasant noise through headphones. The result showed, “those who played the violent games had an increase in their hostile expectations” (More Playing Time Equals More Aggression” 2).
