The Importance of Children in SportsPhysical fitness is one of the most important aspects of sustaining a healthy and happy lifestyle. It is universally known that every human being needs some kind of physical activity in order to maintain both a healthy body composition and healthy systems of the body, such as the circulatory and respiratory systems. It is the responsibility of every individual to take care of their body and to recognize that physical fitness is crucial in everyone's life. Many people today, including those in the stressful working world, maintain a healthy lifestyle; and studies have shown that the roots of a healthy lifestyle are from childhood experiences. The development of children depends on their environments and their parents. Routines and habits begin to develop from the time they are born (ie. they will sleep at certain times and will eat at certain times of the day). Studies have shown that if parents expose their children to physical activity, it is more likely that the children will grow up enjoying exercise and will also keep up a routine of physical fitness for the rest of their lives. Parents only need to set a solid foundation for their children and they can build their way up from there on their own, but it is not always as easy as it sounds. There are many things that may go wrong when parents introduce physical activity to their children, such as a traumatizing experience (ie. injury). It is essential that parents expose sports to their children in a positive and enjoyable manner.Parents are the most important people in a child's life because they are responsible for setting a safe and healthy environment for the child, for setting good examples for the child, and for teaching the child the difference between good and bad and right and wrong. The words and actions of parents have the strongest impact on a child. Most children grow up according to the morals and values of their parents. Once a child has complete trust and comfort in the parents and the surrounding environment, it is time for the introduction of physical activity.There are many approaches in introducing physical activity but the best way is to allow the child to develop basic motor skills before imposing sports upon them. It would be wrong of parents to force their child into a sport when certain motor skills have not yet been acquired. For example, if a child does not know how to throw a ball, baseball would not be the first sport introduced. Running, hopping, jumping, skipping, throwing, catching, and kicking are just some of the most basic skills a child needs in preparation for any type of physical activity. Without a good skills base, it would be impossible for a child to enjoy anything because he or she cannot do anything. Parents must ensure that all the basic motor skills are perfected in their child. The best way to develop these skills is to play with the child right from birth.
