Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. As Abraham Lincoln has stated, the human soul has and can survive many atrocious and scarring things. It is also stated that to find to true intent of a person’s heart is by providing an individual with power. People have been able to overcome many hard and “impossible” obstacles in this life. It is the human spirit that pushed and pushed to use those obstacles as stairs to a way of a better life. All throughout the known history of humans’ phenomenal changes have occurred, most of these, ignited by mankind. The human race is powered by nothing more than a poplutlation of independent humans. Each human is individually pushed, torn, and grown by that of nothing but merely a spirit, the Human Spirit. It is one to push on, and reach for that which is hoped for.
The theme of the human spirit is present in The Crisis by Thomas Paine. Which is completely about the ideas and feelings from the human spirit.
I have as little superstition in me as any man living, but my secret opinion has ever been, and still is, that God almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupported to perish, who have earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by every decent method which wisdom could invent (Paine 161).
This Quote is a perfect example of the human spirit, it gives hope built from reason, along with analyzing the situation at hand. The Crisis shows how men felt about being ruled by Great Britain, it shows how the human spit can influence many to act. Whether it was for freedom of rights, land, or other temporal matters the people are able to achieve what they did by embracing the human spirit and fighting until the end.
The Crucible by Arthur Miller displays several of the many different sides of the human spirit very effectively by; showing people that desperately cling to those they love. For example when John proctor and Elisabeth have to help and plea for one another’s wellbeing in front of the court during the Salem witch trials (Miller 1294). Elizabeth, by not speaking about John’s love affair is displaying great character as well as a strong human spirit (Miller 1269). Another character who shines a light on the human spirit is Abigale. The spirit she displays is that of a broken and hurt young girl. The actions that displays such traits are; confronting John, bringing Elizabeth into the trials, and most of all feeling the country. A general human spirit is felt throughout the work of literature by the town’s people. The people justify the witch trials by telling themselves that the innocent people they are killing and torturing are truly witches. Also by the greed which is shown when neighbors turn on each other, only to gain the other’s lands and property, along with a higher social position and more respect.
The Human spirit is comprised of many things, honor and faith are ones that are focused in...
