The Sunshine State
Choosing a vacation destination can be difficult. When deciding a destination there are many things to consider. Two of the most important considerations are the climate, and activities that are available. California is one of the top destinations for many people. California is also known as the “Sunshine State”. The beautiful state has many things to offer for families, couples, and singles. The top places that are visited in Southern California include many amusements and popular site seeing. A few top places are Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Hollywood Boulevard, and Catalina Island. These are a few of the top attractions in Southern California. Ultimately where you choose to visit will be a personal choice.
Southern California is considered to have one of the best year-round of any destination in the United States. There is a brief season of rain, which falls in the months of December, January and February. The average rainfall in Southern California is twelve inches and 90% of the rain will occur during these three months. The average temperature range is between sixty-eight and eighty-three. Temperatures can differ as much as twenty degrees depending on the area of Southern California. Coastal areas that are close to the ocean are cooler while inland areas are warmer due to the Santa Ana winds. Fog can occur during June due to the arid winds pulling moisture from the ocean. This can sometimes be referred to as the “June Gloom”. Fog will typically burn off, by the sun, around noon each day. The fog during June tends to make the mornings cooler and afternoons and evenings warmer.
Disneyland is known to be the happiest place on earth. Walt Disney is the founder of this amusement park. Walt had a dream to create a place that was magical in a time that really had no hope. His initial dream was to build an eight-acre park but the thought expanded after World War two. During the war he came up with many different ideas than he had before on what he now wanted it to be. Walt decided that the amusement park would be best located in the orange groves of Anaheim, California. After having surveyors help him, he expanded his plans to building the amusement park on a hundred-sixty acres. He had a vision of it being off of the highway so that it would be easier to access and draw in larger crowds. The park opened on July eighteenth, 1955. Each year around seventeen million people visit this amusement park. People visit this park for several different reasons. A major reason is to bring families together in an environment that everyone can enjoy. Disneyland has many amusement rides but also has live entertainment shows, historical information, and gift shops to enjoy. People from all around the world travel to see the beautiful park and famous characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
