In the videogame industry there are many terms and processes. The latest term in class discussion was player agency and interaction. Now, from a general perspective the two terms seem similar but have different meanings in the field. In the following paragraphs allow me to explain what these terms mean and how they relate to the videogame industry.
To begin with, Interaction is defined as reciprocal action, effect, or influence. When it comes to videogames players get a sense of being interactive with the world they are residing in. Next, Player agency is known to consist of many different views. Agency is defined as an individual’s capacity for independent thought and action. This includes a person’s cognitive style, critical thinking ability, and the extent to which a person is affected by external influences. When it comes to the science of videogame development, the players themselves are the receivers of information. Players get engaged in assembling their own experience. There is isn’t just one form of player; the same can be said about agency. Agency can be characterized into three types: determinist, voluntarism, and the third type are composed of the other two. The deterministic aspect of agency is about how games affect the player.
