Computers are woven into every aspect of our lives. From the computers we use in our cars, to the microwaves oven in our homes where we teach younger children how to heat up a hot dog. When it comes to the education of our children in today’s world, we tend to question the use of computers and how everything revolves around them. As parents and teachers, we all understand that computers are utilized in many situations for education. But we often ask, “What effect do these computers really have on our children?” “Are they actually learning from sitting in front of a screen for numerous hours?” Fredrick Hess says, “Educators today have expressed plenty of questions about new technologies” ...view middle of the document...

However, they contribute to a wide range of disorders such as headaches, eyestrain, and skin problems. “Too much time in front of a screen can deprive children of time for organized sports and other social activities that are beneficial to child development” (Margie K. Shields n.p.). The use of computers both at school and at home, time must be limited and their exposure to different types of content must be supervised. It has been argued that school-aged children would learn better and understand the material teachers are teaching them if they manipulated and interacted with their physical environment, rather than a computer all the time.
Excessive computer use may also affect children's social development. By the age of about seven years, a child's interactions with family, peers, school, community networks, and media all play an important role in the development of interpersonal skills and social competence” (Shields n.p.)
Here we see that the use of computers may become predictable and lead to a poorer quality and development of the different learning techniques.
On the other hand, there have been some disadvantages for schooling only with computers. Children learning with computers will mess with them developing social skills. “Advances in information technology have revolutionized how people communicate and learn in nearly every aspect of modern life except for education” (Darrell West n.p.) I have read several tweets about how there is communication problems in different offices. Employees often send e-mails to their co-workers to communicate with one another. This shows how people will lose their confidence to talk to other people because they are always sitting in front of screen for hours. We cannot deny that computing teaching prevents learning practical skills. “Children of today are addicted to their mobile devices and consequently lead a much more sedentary life than children from the generation before them” (Jove Weiner n.p.)
