Students are the future of society. They work hard and study for long hours using the Internet as their greatest study tool. Or do they? With new distractions popping up every day on the Internet, are students really using this as a tool for school or are they working harder on their Facebook pages? The Internet is a valuable source of knowledge; however, it is being shaped into a place for entertainment and games. So does Internet access affect students in schools in a positive or negative way? Will this affect the future of our society?

Also, the ability to use the Internet in the school environment has shown evidence that it has helped advance learning in the classroom. In government research on the subject, students at the elementary school to high school level were able to easily adapt and have “an impressive level of skill with a broad range of computer software” (para 9). Teachers also have seen some transition in student learning. Teachers, that used the government study sites, reported that “students were able to handle more complex assignments and do more with higher-order skills because of the supports and capabilities provided by technology” (Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students, n.d., para 10).
Although, with the positives come the negative attributes of the Internet. One being that students might give up too easily when looking for information. Because of technology, majority of teachers (76%) agree that “the Internet has more or less spoiled today’s youth to expect quick and near-immediate results when looking for an answer” when it comes to search engines like Google or Bing (para 11). Then about 71% of those teachers also agreed that “students are so accustomed to finding what they need so quickly that they won’t use a wide range of sources when conducting their research” (Harper, 2012, para 12). So with the speed of technology comes a dependence on that speed, and now it has become harder for students to actually search for that information but, instead, just expect it to there at first glance.
