"The Veldt" is a short story written by Ray Bradbury. In the short story, George, Lydia and their two children live in a "Happy-Life Home". These homes are filled with machines that do practically everything for them from brushing their teeth, cooking meals, putting them to sleep, clothing them, etc. But the best part of this house is the nursery. It's a room that is able to connect with the children's minds to reproduce anything they imagine. " The Veldt" is really about how technology can be sometimes a good thing but at time can be bad. It shows us how at times we are dependant on technology and how we almost always use it to our advantage, but at the same time it could mean our downfall as seen in "The Veldt", the parents used the technology and it soon over through them in the long run . "Help Wanted" by Doug Cantor is a fictionalized list of jobs of the possible future where though-powered electronic engineers, pre-birth design counsellors and solar-power nanoengineers really exist. "The Veldt" and "Help Wanted both have their similarities and differences but in the end one of them has to more effectively answer the guiding question."The Veldt" has two main writing techniques that I have discovered in the text, one is "Ambience" and the other "Foreshadowing". Ambience was very advantageous because it made you feel as if you were actually there. This writing technique is the icing on top of the cake. With this you can set up a tense, emotional ambience in the story with a very vague and descriptive tone. Parts like "The hot straw smell of lion grass, the cool green smell of the hidden water hole, the great rusty smell of animals, the smell of dust like a red paprika in the hot air" is an example of how well this writing technique actually works. This passage from the story was a great example for show. Passages like these create a sort of tense atmosphere which adds a sense of realism to the world of "The Veldt". Foreshadowing is another technique where hints of what is to happen are dropped by the author throughout the story, this technique plays a big role in "The Veldt". At one point during the short story, Lydia starts to think that the lions could become real. This dropped a hint of what might occur towards the end of the story.
