The War of 1812 was the last war that America fought with Great Britain. It was a war won by the Americans, after a long period of time they was able to gain their entire land back to themselves. It showed the United States the independent sovereignty they had after the win in the American Revolution. It also help shaped the foreign policy of America.
After the American Revolutionary War, it was a lot tension between the United States and Great Britain. When the France had fought the war with great Britain in 1793, the U.S. did not get involved with France and stayed to itself, while still having contact with both sides oversees, this created a problem. Meanwhile, Great Britain still proceeded in supplying the Native Americans with stuff to fight the war with the United States in the Northwest Territory. The Jay Treaty was secured by the U.S. with Great Britain and the natives had the Treaty of Gainesville that gave them peace for a little while.
When both France and Great Britain went to war in 1803, the same issues can back again. Because Great Britain didn’t have enough equipment to keep the Royal Navy at sea, they created a policy of searching vessels for deserters of the British. In England the year of 1806, the Monroe Pinkney Treaty was formed and because it didn’t address the impressment issue it did not go for the United States. The next year a British ship fired and boarded the American Chesapeake ship, giving off four seamen. This accident really wasn’t that major but Americans took offense to it and seen it as a war.
On the other hand Great Britain and France had created embargoes that made international trade uncertain. After they did that, president Thomas Jefferson can up with a law called the Embargo Act of 1807. This act restricted American ships to participate in foreign trade.
