Somewhere in the world at this very moment, people are being abused. They will be left with bruises, cuts, broken bones, and scars. There are many reasons why people need to speak out against domestic violence. One reason is that statistics show that most abusers will continue to abuse until they are arrested. Another reason is that domestic violence does not only physically harm a person; it also mentally harms the victim and any children involved. The third reason is that help is available. People of all races, education levels, and ages experience domestic abuse. In the United States, more than 5 million women are abused by an intimate partner each year. Any type of contact made to a person in a harmful way is physical abuse. There are several different ways to go through this type of violence including hitting, hair pulling, biting, kicking, etc. Sometimes it is hard for a person to realize this is abuse because they were abused as a child. I know that for me, growing up in an abusive home it seemed like it was a normal way of life. Physical abuse makes one fear their partner. The become property of the abuser. For some the abuse does not stop until the abuser murders him or her. The abuser normally does not stop until he or she is put in jail. The scars left from physical abuse may not be visible, but the pain and the mental anguish will last a life time and will never be forgotten.
