How is the initial material being researched and developed at significant stages during the process of creating drama?
The first stimulus we were given was the topic 'The London Riots' of that we had to develop our own piece of drama around. We were then asked are initial response on being given the London riots as are topic and what our knowledge of the riots were before we did any independent research. Collectively as a group we had an idea of what happened during the 2011 London riots but not really why or how they started.
The second stimulus was a BBC 3 documentary that used real footage taken by members of the public involved and affected by the riots. The documentary gave a unbiased view of the riots that helped our group think about if we wanted are piece to take an unbiased take on the riots. Although we found the documentary a useful source of information it never really touched upon the real reason of how the riots started and because of this we needed to do our own research into how and why they started. My own research brought me to the story of Mark Duggan who’s death allegedly triggered the riots. Duggan was shot by police on the 4th August 2011 because police believed he was in possession of an illegal firearm and had links to a notorious London gang named TMD or Tottenham Man Dem which at the time were being investigated. The night Duggan was shot the police believed Mark had apparently to collect the firearm from that evening and was in possession of it when his cab was pulled over by police. On the 6th August 2011 just 2 days after Marks death friends and relatives organised a peaceful protest of which they marched from Broadwater Farm to Tottenham Police station as they marched every one chanted “we want answers”. But the protest began to get out of hand after a 16 year old girl was restrained by police after apparently throwing a leaflet or stone at a police officer. we incorporated the protests into are piece of drama by creating the scene ‘peaceful protests’ making signs that read “We want answers” then marching on the outside of the audience the shouting statement at an imagine line of riot police
Our third stimulus was the song ill Manors by Plan B we were asked to discuss what we thought the song was about and how it linked to the events of the London Riots. As a group me ,Dan and josh agreed that the song was in some ways promoting the riots. One of the lyrics that really stood out to me is “Oi what you looking at you little rich boy” because it really seemed to sum up the feelings that people involved in the riots had towards the government and police by using the term Rich boy I think the singer is referring not only to the government but the middle classes.
How effectively are you personally exploring and developing your roles?
My first role is a member of a gang that is taking part in the looting off shops. In the opening scene mine, Josh's and Dan's characters are all friends that meet up with...
