There Is No Title Essay

1222 words - 5 pages

Most Americans have at least one product made my Apple. Whether it is an iPod, and iPhone or an iPad, the devices are still very essential to the daily lives of our society. IPods have been popular for many years, ever since people wanted to make the mp3 player much smaller and easier to use. With mp3 players, people would not need to carry around big heavy CD players with stacks of their favorite mixed CDs accustomed just for their taste in music. Back in the 1990s, Americans decided that was way too difficult of a lifestyle and that we needed to move on. Ten years later, smaller and even more compacted versions of mp3 players came out where there were fewer buttons. The volume was controlled by the sliding of the buttons rather than being controlled by a completely different part of the device. The iPod’s popularity skyrocketed and later apple came out with the iPad which is very useful for those who want to do their work on a much bigger iPod similar to a laptop. The iPhone became very popular because cell phones were gaining popularity too. A device that could call people, search the web and play music has got to be the most useful thing in the world. This is an example of horizontal segmentation. Consumers don’t just need one apple product to fill their needs. They need quite a few to keep themselves, entertained, occupied and on top of their work schedules. Horizontal segmentation does not only include one customer needing more than one item, but it also involves appealing to many different costumers with different types of items. For example, some Americans might like chunky peanut butter while others prefer creamy. The Peter Pan and Jiff companies need to satisfy both peoples’ needs to be ahead in business. The same applies to Apple or any other business. The company might be successful and the consumers might be satisfied but this does not necessarily mean the economy is secure. There are many ways in which the process of citizens getting what they want is not such a pretty sight.
The products made by apple are not only very popular in the United States of America but they are also held in high regard globally. Many Americans feel proud that the whole world is using an all American product. The only problem with that statement is that the iPod, iPad and iPhone are not “all American products.” The products might be “made” in America, but according to the video “The iPhone Economy,” published by the New York times, most of the parts were made in Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, China and many other nations. As long as the business is making tons of money, it can hire laborers from all over the world. As early as the 1960s, blue collar jobs were shipped to foreign countries because blue collar Americans were not working under such low wages. As time progressed, so did the global distribution of more skilled labor. In the 1980s more skilled jobs start to be shipped to the Philippines, China, Taiwan and many other...
