Think Before you Act
Has making a decision ever ruin your life? Have you ever done anything you could to settle a situation, but no matter what you do it just gets worse? In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, a long-standing hatred between two families affects their two unlucky children, who have fallen in love with each other. Many situations arise where decisions have to be made. Only the lovers’ tragic deaths end the two family feuds. Out of all the poor decisions in the play, Romeo’s decision to kill Tybalt is one of the most important decisions in the play; it is the catalyst that leads to the ultimate tragedy.

As Lady Capulet tells Juliet about the marriage, Juliet responds to her saying, “Now, by Saint’s Peter’s Church and Peter too, he shall not make me there a joyful bride” (III. v. 116-117). Since Juliet is already married to Romeo, she does not want to marry Paris, as her father wishes.. Juliet’s only love is Romeo and will be him forever. Later on as Lord Capulet finds out her daughter’s answer to the marriage, he tells her, “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch! ... never after look me in the face. Speak not. Reply not. Do not answer me” he also tells her to go “Out, you green sickness, carrion! Out, you baggage! You tallow face!” (III. v. 160-163 & 157-159). Lord Capulet has become so upset that Juliet will not take Paris’s hand in marriage. He thinks Juliet is worthless and ugly just because she wouldn’t agree to the marriage. Lord Capulet doesn’t know that Juliet can’t marry Paris because she has already married Romeo and loves him. Romeo’s banishment, which causes Juliet to be mournful, leads to the marriage being moved ahead.
Killing Tybalt has led to many events that leads to the ultimate tragedy. Since Juliet didn’t want to marry Paris she goes to the Friar for help.
