In a land far far away a farmer plowed his land with a small and weak hoe that his deceased father had given him. The farmer’s name was Andrew but most people called him Andy. He lived in a small shack with dirt floors, concrete walls, and a straw roof. It had a tiny window that was just big enough to see his small amount of land and provide some light for his stubborn mother, who also lived with him. Andy’s mother was on her death bed, just waiting for a secret potion that would cure her. The problem was that it was too expensive for a poor and common farmer to own. The only things that were keeping Andy’s mother alive were herbs that he found in the mountains near his house.
One day, Andy was going up the mountain to find herbs for his mother. Just he was about to bend down to pick the herbs, a roar came from behind him. He turned slowly to discover that a mountain tiger was only five feet behind him. He looked into its big brown eyes and saw nothing but pain and sadness. The tiger opened its jaw wide and revealed a small piece of bone jammed between its two bad teeth. The tiger expressed its concern
“I can’t get this bone out with my huge paws”
The tiger was anxious and was in serious need of help. Andy saw the long white bone one more time. It seemed like a goat’s bone. As Andy put his hand toward its mouth, he paused. Andy feared that after he removed the bone, he would become the tiger’s next meal, but the tiger looked so sad and hurt and was gagging; Andy took a pity on the tiger and took out the bone.
After Andy removed the pesky bone, the tiger seemed comfortable and delighted. When the tiger was about to thank him, Andy had come to the realization that he was talking to a vicious and furious tiger and quickly ran down the mountain, dropping all the herbs he had gathered for his mother.
Several months passed, and Andy forgot about the tiger. He had bigger things to worry about. A horrible famine had spread through the area, and his mother’s health was declining every day. The only food he could get from the market was extremely expensive. The next day, there were dead cows, pigs, and chickens outside his house. Andy wondered who would have done this.
Andy skinned the animal and ate a delicious dinner with his mother.
The next day the farmer got up early to get some...
