1.0 IntroductionA career has been defined as the evolving sequence of a person's lifelong series of work related experiences and attitudes that apply to all workers, and all sequences of work roles (Hall, 1976). Today, the career not only provide us with an income with which to support our families, but also they are a source of interest and meaning. You need self-awareness for survival in today's business world. You are somewhere in the middle of a half-century work life, and you can get most anywhere you want to go, as long as you know where you stand today and have a clearly articulated goal for tomorrow. Without knowing your strengths and weaknesses you don't have solid ground from which to launch yourself toward your career goals.2.0 Self-awarenessSelf-awareness is the understanding that one exits. It is a broader concept that focuses on the image that an individual has of him/her and whether or not that image is accurate in comparison with how others perceive that individual. Self-awareness is also defined by Wiesinger (1998) as understanding what is important to you, understanding how you experience things, knowing what you want, knowing how you feel, and knowing how you come across to others. Goleman (1998) added that an individual who is self-aware has a deep understanding of his/her emotions, strengths, weaknesses and drives. Furthermore, self-awareness involves gaining knowledge of the "self" that is both being managed and is managing. Self -awareness also covers awareness of our own strengths and weakness (Bourner, 1996). Self-awareness means knowing your values, personality, needs, habits, emotions, strengths, weaknesses with a sense of who you are and a vision of the person you want to become.Human being is complex so we need to know more to be self-awareness.Personality-------we don't normally change our personalities, values and needs based on what we learn about ourselves, but an understanding of our personalities can help us find situations thrive us, and help us avoid situations stress us too much.Values------It's important that we know and focus on our personal values in order to accomplish what we consider most important.Habits----Our habits are the behaviors that we repeat routinely and often automatically. Although some of them help us, we can probably all identify at least one of our habits that decrease our effectiveness.Needs------It is identified a variety of psychological needs that drive our behaviors such as needs for esteem, affection, belongingness, achievement, self-actualization, power and control.Emotions------Emotional self-awareness is one of the five facets of emotional intelligence. Understanding your own feelings, what causes them, and how they impact your thoughts and actions is emotional self-awareness.
