The Best And Worst American Presidents

1081 words - 4 pages

America has had its fare share of good and bad presidents throughout history.I chose Woodrow Wilson as the Best President of the American Government. He was Americas 28th President (Democratic) and served from 1913 - 1921, which was during World War 1. Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Virginia on 28th December 1856. Before his Presidency Wilson was New Jersey's Governor for three years. At the University of Viginia Wilson studied law, after which he went to Princeton and graduated with a Ph.D in political science, becoming the first president to obtain a Ph.D. Wilson was married twice and he had three children with his first wife Ellen Louise Axson, who died in 1914. I chose Woodrow Wilson as the best President for a few reason: During his first term he kept America out of the war, in his second term he could no longer ignore the threat Germany posed and led America through World War 1; Wilson fought to obtain world peace, which gave him lasting fame; "In many ways, the Wilson era separated an old America from the modern nation of today", World Book, inc, www.worldbook.com. Due to Wilson America became more industrialized, the number of large corporations grew, increasing the wealth and Americas political power. As the worst President of the American Government I chose William Jefferson Clinton.Clinton seemed the perfect candidate for worst President with all his scandals and wrong doings. Bill Clinton was the 42nd President (Democratic) of the United Sates, he served from 1993 - 2001. He was born in Hope, Arkansas on August 19, 1946. Bill Clinton is married to Hillary Clinton who is now the Senator of New York. Clinton studied to be a law professor at the University of Arkansas, he later became the Governor of Arkansas. " Few Presidents have suffered more humiliating public abuse, caused more damage to the prestige of the presidency, or presided over a longer period of sustained prosperity", The American President, www.americanpresident.org. Some of the reasons why I chose Bill Clinton as the worst President are: Clinton lied under oath about his involvement with Monika Lewinsky; Bill Clinton limited the right of habeas corpus to one year which will lead to the execution of innocent men and women. Clinton Failed to lead on campaign finance reform. Both Bill Clinton and Woodrow Wilson are Democrats, studied law, and were governors of there states before they became Presidents of America. They might have had similar characteristics but they were very different Presidents.Wilson brought three major pieces of legislation through Congress: The Underwood Act, which was a lower tariff; The Federal Reserve Act, this gave America the expandable money supply it needed; The establishment of a federal Trade Commission which prohibited unfair business practice. Wilson passed a law which prohibited child labor, and a law that limited the railroad workers day to eight hours. This showed the American people that he cared about their well being. During his...
