Gjennom troshistorien vår har mange guder vært tilbedt her i Norge. Blant gudene er det Tor som har vært mest den mest tilbedte guden, blant de norrøne, gjennom historien. Han er den sterkeste, og var en av de viktigste i vikingtiden. Tor er sønn av Odin og Jord, de to sterkeste av gudene. Huset til Tor ligger i Trudvang og heter Bilskirne. Tor er ikke bare den sterkeste av gudene, han er òg den åsen som hadde det desidert kraftigste våpenet, Mjøllner, eller "knuseren" som noen kaller den. Det var opprinelig dvergene som hadde smidd Mjøllner, den kunne gjøre ham så stor og liten som han ønsket. Det som gjør Mjøllner så kraftig er at den alltid treffer sitt mål, og i tillegg kommmer den tilbake igjen, som en "boomerang". Men hammeren er ikke den eneste jokeren han har. Han eier også ett styrkebelte, Megingjord, som gir han dobbelt styrke og sinne når han tar det på. Dette mektige kombinasjon som gjør at æsene er i stand til å forsvare seg mot de onde jotnene. Men uten Mjøllner er æsene forsvarsløse. I trymskvida ble Tor frastjålet Mjøllner èn gang. Det endte med at Tor måtte kle seg ut som en kvinne, for å dra til Jotunheimen for å redde hammeren.Selv om vikingene var et modig og krigersk folk, var det en ting de fryktet, lyn og torden. Når de så opp mot himmelen mot lyn og torden, så de med frykt og redsel, for de hadde sett hvordan lyn hadde splintret trær og satt hus i brann før. Da var Tor ute og lagde lyn og "Tor-dønn", med sine to bukker, Tanngnjost og Tanngrisne, og kjørte rundt på himmelen i vognen sin, der hjulene gnistret lyn og lagde "Tor-dønn"(torden).Når Tor er ute og kjører rundt i vognen sin har han alltid på seg et par jernhansker.De fleste verkene som er laget om Tor, er ofte ganske enkle og forteller kraft -og krigsprestasjonene til Tor.
