Transfer Rate Drop Essay

853 words - 4 pages

With budget cuts in the community college system, it has become quite difficult to transfer out within the expected two years. With classes always full, it’s hard to get the required courses that are transferable. GCC has 16,000 students enrolled, and 550 of them are international students from over 50 different countries. Glendale has 75 academic majors leading to an associate’s degree for transfer.
Compared to 2012-2013, enrollment at GCC has decreased in 2013-2014. Although it's hard to know all the causes, one factor is probably the economy's recovery. “Some people who would have taken college courses during the recession probably have jobs now and are not taking college courses,” Karpp ...view middle of the document...

Between 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, the total number of transfers from community colleges to CSU institutions decreased by 25 percent. In 2008, there was 1,029 students that transferred and in 2009, the number dropped to 809 students.

Transfer rates are not only important to the school’s reputation, but are vital to students trying to pursue higher education. Many students decide on what community college to enroll in based on the rates of transfers, since community colleges are designed for transfer to the university system. Therefore, the higher the transfer rates become, the more enrollment GCC will encounter.

GCC saw a decline in transferees to universities in the past. In 2006, the transfer rate to UC institutions was 5.5 percent and in the 2012-2013 year, the rate was a solid 4.0 percent. It has been dropping by 0.2 percent each year. Karpp suggested that the decline in UC transfers is because tuition keeps increasing drastically and students would rather attend CSU’s for a cheaper education.

GCC only transferred 825 students to the University of California and to the California State University’s in the 2012-2013 year, whereas in 2011-2012, the number was at 1,037. This little decline can be many factors, according to Karpp. Other factors probably include some recent and upcoming changes in state regulations that limit the number of course repetitions students can take, rules for getting priority registration, and rules on the maximum number of units...

Does the amount of exercise have an effect on the pulse rate?

1287 words - 5 pages allow the person's pulse rate to drop down to normal resting pace. If we started the next test and their pulse rate was still quite high, we would not have results telling us how much an increased amount of exercise effects the pulse rate compared to a normal walk. So, each time their pulse rate is taken, we will let him/her recover before they start exercising again. Then, the person will power walk (quickly walk) up and down the steps for one
