The fisherman crew of several ships departed their port late October or 1991, leaving behind friends and loved ones. Little did they know, they would soon encounter one of the greatest storms ever recorded. It generated immensely high winds and hard rain. Said to be a "perfect storm" because all the elements were created just right to produce the worst imaginable storm ever seen. "A hundred-year event" (Junger, 191) claimed some meteorologists. Throughout the storm, there were those daring individuals risking rescues from the Coast Guard, which resulted in many lives being saved. These men endangered their own lives for the well being of others. Thus earning the title of a dauntless man. "How do men act in sinking ship? Do they hold each other? Do they pass around the whisky? Do they cry?" (Junger, 3) The men on this strenuous voyage were the best of the best. They not only had to be physically in shape, but their mind and heart had to be sharp and intuitive. All essential qualities for what a "hero" possesses. In spite of those characteristics, there is still more than what meets the eyes. It is hard to imagine being in a situation like what they went through and deciding whether or not it is worth risking your life for that of another.
