What are the trends of the cruise industry in the next few years? As a start, the European and American cruise industry market opened a gate for the world’s cruise industry market. Data shows it has approximately 400 cruises lines every year over more than 100 countries and regions in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Northern Europe (Zhou, 2014). However, some European and American cruise companies are turning their attention to Asian cruise market, mainly for the Southeast Asian countries. China, as a rapidly growing country in the service and tourism industry, has become a major concern for cruise companies around the world. An executive vice president of international business at Princess Cruises expected the new China’s cruise market probably will be developed to be the top size cruise ship market world wild (Martin, 2016). Moreover, many cruise companies have established offices and branches in China. For example, the cruise industry is poised in China: Shanghai, Qingdao, Dalian, Tianjin, Ningbo, Xiamen, Haikou, Shenzhen and other port cities have been focused on the cruise industry. Although the cruise industry of the entire Chinese tourism industry is likely known as a luxury tourism product, it is playing a crucial role in the world's cruise market.The cruise industry in China is rapidly developing. According to a report of Cruise Lines International Association (2016), the number of Chinese cruise passengers grew from approximately 770,000 to one million since 2012 and 66% growth rate for a year was illustrated. There was nearly 1.05 million Chinese cruise passengers in 2015 (Asian Cruise Trends, 2016). Furthermore, the executive vice president of the China Cruise and Yacht Industry Association (CCYIA), Zheng Weihang, estimated to The Maritime Executive that the Chinese cruise amount will increase up to 2.5 million in 2020, 4.5 million in 2025 and 7 million in 2030 (Meesak, 2016). The purpose of this paper is to examine 4 trends in Chinese cruise industry: cruise industry facility improvement, cruise line development, international cruise companies cooperation and themed cruise lines introduction.
