Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. It usually will affect and take place at the lungs in the human body. The symptoms of TB include fever, cough, pain in the chest, and sweating at night. In addition, Tuberculosis can spread by a sneeze or a cough from person to person. Most commonly, the TB germs will spread to the air by talking, sneezing, coughing, and singing. Since the lungs are infected, the TB germs are most likely to come out from patient’s mouth. And then, other people will get infected when they breathe in those TB germs. According to the article written by Debora MacKenzie, Robert Daniel was quarantined in U.S. for having extreme drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB). XDR-TB is a mutant that evolved from drug-resistant TB, it resists most of the TB drug and it is extremely difficult to treat. First of all, On January, 2007, Robert Daniel said that he might be infected when he was working as a hospital fundraiser while travel in Asia. Even though, the doctor suggest him not to leave the country, Robert Daniel leaves the U.S. and having a wedding in Greece then have a honeymoon in Rome, Italy. While he is in Rome, U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has contacted him that he has been infected by XDR-TB, and order him to stay in Rome for XDR-TB treatment. Robert Daniel has been quarantined from entering U.S. until he complete his treatment and no longer contagious.
