It affects everyone everyday in some shape or form. It is an unavoidable consequence of life. Learning to recognize and manage stress is the key to coping in our mental civilization.Stress is triggered by anything that causes a change in which you must adapt. Some stress is caused by imagined change. Imagining change is what we call"worry". Anxiety can be produced by self-generated factors such as negative personal interpretations--low self esteem. Negative thinking increases stress because the negative thinker tends to interpret events in such a way as to produce anxiety. Positive thinking minimizes or eliminates stress because positive thinkers rarely perceive events as stressful (Datamation, April 15, 1985 v31 n8 p88-90)."Money is the root of all evil" (1 Timothy 6:10, King James Bible, 1611) may be questionable but money is certainly the root of a great deal of stress. Social pressure and easily available credit can lead to mounting debt, which lead to stress.There are several types of stress--acute, episodic acute stress and chronic stress. Each has its own characteristics, symptoms, duration and treatment approaches. These range from common, frequent to severe.Acute stress is the most common and most recognizable form of stress. This can be a result of happy change such as a vacation, beautiful wedding, or hearing a touching song. Acute stress can be thrilling and exciting in small doses, but too much can be exhausting and tiring. This form can crop up at any time in life, but it is highly manageable by simply being aware of what is happening.Episodic acute stress has more frequent occurrences. This type displays disorder, chaos, and is constantly in crisis mode. The sufferer is always in a rush, but always late. They can be described as having too many irons in the fire. They seem perpetually in the clutches of constant anxiety. Treatment is more difficult with this form due to the fact the victim is fiercely resistant to change.Chronic stress is the most profound form.
