What is the most heated debate in America’s education? School uniforms are one of the most heated debates. School uniforms are not suitable for the cold winter months, the girls who have to wear skirts will be cold. They don’t teach children how to deal with people who are different, they only teach children that in order to get along everyone must be the same. With so much stress about getting good grades and getting everything done on time, we shouldn’t have to deal with the stress of uniform (“I believe”). School uniforms should not be worn at school because of these main reasons: confidence is hard to find in an ugly uniform, parents waste more money on buying clothes for after school, and if a person violates the uniform code the consequence is detention.
No Confidence in Uniform
In School Uniforms confidence is hard to find in an ugly uniforms. A lot of confidence is found in trying to be unique, people wear things they feel comfortable and confident in. Teachers are always saying how important it is to just be ourselves and not worry about what others might (“I believe”). If were going to make kids wear uniforms at least make it to wear its something everyone is comfortable with, it's understandable that it’s suppose to be professional but, its easier to have just a dress code because, then everyone is happy. Why should people stand in the way of a students fashion choices, people shouldn't discriminate against them, people always say it’s what's on the inside that counts not what’s on the outside. Clothing is a major way in which human beings, especially with teens, communicate their personalities to the world without having to speak or perform physical behaviors (Christopher). Students already have so many things taken away from them during school hours, individuality and confidence shouldn’t have to be hidden by uniforms (“I believe”). Students are always asked to have original ideas, not to copy one another, and being original is often expressed through clothes. Schools believe that having uniforms will get rid of bullying, bullying problems usually come from the problems at home so, even with the uniforms people can’t stop what is going on at home. Who cares what kids these days wear, what they wear doesn’t affect their learning and that’s all that matters is that kids get a good education.
Wastes more money
Parents waste more money on buying clothes for after school. Even with uniforms, parents would still need to purchase "regular" clothes for when students are not in school, this creating an additional expense (“Global Post”). Some opponents claim that uniforms are not a fix-all for the problems that plague schools, but instead, violate a student's right to express themselves, as guaranteed by the First Amendment (“Global Post”). With the economy the way it is, money is still tight parents don’t have enough money to be...
