PPA 523 Urban Information Systems
1.Discuss each of the two projects you propose and why the city should purse each one.
As the new Chief Technology Officer of a small California city located near Lake Tahoe (known as Lake Tahoe East) that generates majority of its revenue from tourism and maintains nearly a total reliance on old, paper based operations, I would propose undertaking the following two e-government projects for Lake Tahoe East; one to assist the residents and the second to assist the private businesses/tourists.
Project 1: Web based CRM311 application for residents.

In additional to improving delivery of information and services to city's residence, the web based CRM311 system will be a cost effective program for it will lessen the city's paper based operations and will free up time for the public employees to deal with other city expectations.
Project 2: Application for tourism. Make an application that can show tourist their tourism options for the city.
My second proposed e-government project is a joint collaboration of public-private partnership to promote tourism in Lake Tahoe East. My proposed project is the creation of a web-based application that operates similar to a youtube channel which will be accessible through the City's web page. I would begin the project by reaching out to local business (restaurants, ski resorts, hotels/motels, museums, local airlines, zoos, ski-diving operations, theme parks, carnivals, camp sites, hiking establishments, etc) and request them to create and submit video(s) of their operations. The requested videos, which would go through a screening processes by a city employee, do not have to be created by professional videographers. Nevertheless, the videos should be created in a manner that portrays their businesses operations as a fun and exciting location in visit. For example, a local restaurant could create video content displaying their food creations or a ski resort personnel talking about their snow pack and season pass prices. This project would provide a portal for prospective tourists to visit and easily obtain information on the attractions provided by the city's private and government organizations. Needless to say, if the project assists in increasing tourism then it would inadvertently increase public revenue.
2. Discuss what you see as the most significant cyber-security issue and the most significant electronic privacy issue.
Most Significant Cyber-Security Issue
Our society is steadily increasing its dependency on information technology systems (ITS). While ITS has provided significant benefits, our dependency on technology has produced an infrastructure vulnerably to cyber attacks. A concerning cyber-security issue facing the public sector is observed through cloud computing. I do not proclaim myself as an IT expert in cloud computing however, I can foresee two cloud computing IT categories that may observe significant security issues for the public sector. First is the security of the clouds infrastructure. The cloud is provided by third party cloud vendors which means the organizations applications and data is no longer being stored on-site. The public sector is now reliant on their cloud provider to assure their information is being secured adequately to cyber attacks. The second area of cloud computing that draws security issues is the human factor. Sensitive information/data is now in the hands of an organization that does not employee government employees. These individuals do not have an invested interest in the organization and, if felt...
