A research group at Indiana University Medical Center took a group of forty - four kids and split them up into two groups. While they randomly chose the kids to play Need For Speed and also Medal of Honor for thirty minutes a piece. The only difference in the game was the content of the violence. The principal investigator of the study was hesitant to say. Vince Mathews said that “the parents should look more closely to the type of games their kids are playing”.
Slate.com Amanda Schaffer states that although it not a proven fact, but some believe that the student from Virginia Tech, Cho Seung Hui who went on a killing spree, may have been influenced by the violence. Lee Boyd Malvo played the popular game Halo before his sniper attack around Washington, D.C., and the Columbine killers Eric Harris and Dylan Kleboyd loved the epic video game called Doom. Now the question that must be asked does this link between video games and violence hold up? With that said society must think about the millions who played these games every day. Why are there not more crimes like this if video games have something to do with violence? Amanda Schaffer said that pathological acts of course have multiple complex causes and are hard to predict.
