The Dangers of Violent Video Games
Today, video games have become very popular. The first video game was created in the year 1958; it was a video game of table tennis. One of the most popular video game categories is violent video games. This has become very popular by many teens specifically teen boys. There are many cons about violent video games and one should be aware of them before he or she buys or plays a violent video game. This researcher fact is important because it is increasing the knowledge and reaction time for soldiers to react to things in real life combat. This is similar to the repetition part of violent video game playing because both pros are helping the brain react in tough situations, develop the brains more, and make our brains more useful in ways of being able to use them more efficiently (Shapiro 1). These three pros for violent video games are very supporting but there are also cons for violent video games that might change one’s opinion on how the persons view is on violent video games.
Now, to talk about these pros, one will first learn about how the repetition of violent video games has many drastic effects on a child’s brain development. One example of a direct experience of a terrible effect of violent video games was; “On December 14, 2012, a twenty year old Adam Lanza shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut and gunned down six faculty members and twenty young students (all of the students were six or seven years old) before taking his own life” (Violent 1). Adam Lanza was known for playing many violent video games every day after school. Researchers believed the violence of the games took a major effect on him and caused Lanza to commit the deadly act (Violent 1). This contributes to the next fact against violent video games because it states the fact of many of the most recent school shootings have all been connected to violent video game scenes. A direct evidence for this statement is the killers made many detailed drawings and descriptions for the school shooting day, that were all many based off of the killers most recent or favorite violent video game (Violent 6). This statement gave researchers the motive to believe that violent video games do affect the development of a child’s mind (Violent 6). The final statistic of how the repetition of playing violent video games affects a child’s mind is 97% of teens or children play violent video games. This statistic can conclude that all the children have had more aggressive moments or the development of their minds take an effect upon the playing of the games (Violent 4). These facts conclude that the repetition of playing violent video games can have a major effect upon a child’s mind.
For those who argue that violent video games are good for one’s health, here are some statistics and facts to show that violent video games are also very bad for one’s health. Critics and researchers say video games are too violent because they reward the player for killing or destroying someone or something (Update: Video 4). The General Aggression Model (GAM) by Brad J.
