Violence Cannot Solve Problems
Is killing someone always the right thing to do? In Romeo and Juliet, the story shows us that violence is the only thing that maintains the feud between the families. Although people think that violence can solve everything, Violence cannot solve problems because violence only creates more problems.
In this story, violence contributes to the suffering of both families. The Montague’s and the Capulet’s. The death of Mercutio will impact the people in different ways. This can cause another feud between the two families if people react the wrong way. This is how society reacts to violence, when they try to solve problems with more violence.
Although violence cannot solve problems, some might say violence can solve problems. In the middle of the story Capulet and Juliet have a talk about getting married and Capulet tells Juliet “All things that we ordained festival, turn from off ice to back funeral; our instruments to melancholy bells, our solemn hymns to sullen diggers change, our bridal flowers serve for a buried Corse, and all things change them to the contrary.”(IV.V.11) This quote is showing how love is like death. They connect because when you die you got to heaven, and when you get married you also go to heaven. Violence might make people happy while solving problems might happen, but not in the right way.
