We Are Not Alone, Ufo. Essay

1877 words - 8 pages

The concept of life existing not only on Earth has been a highly criticized and sought after answer. There are millions of web-sites, books, official reports, pictures, and eyewitness accounts to make this topic believable, but to many critics this is not enough to turn a skeptic into a believer. Skeptics have just as many web-sites against what they do not believe to be authentic, accurate or reliable information. For centuries man has wondered on his position in the universe. Is he alone? Is he the divine creature? Is he descended from an ape, or a godly being? Finding its major roots in modern society just recently after World War II, the idea of extraterrestrial life existing and visiting our planet has held us captivated.A skeptic is "one who practices the method of suspended judgment, engages in rational and dispassionate reasoning as exemplified by the scientific method, shows willingness to consider alternative explanations without prejudice based on prior beliefs, and who seeks out evidence and carefully scrutinizes its validity", according to professional astronomer, Bernard Haisch. Skeptics want scientific evidence and to see with there own eyes in order to believe. This proves difficult to be in the right place at the right time and also considering there are not sightings everyday. Skeptics will perform tests like taking a picture of a flying banana to show how easy it is for anyone to fake a "flying saucer". But again there are many web-sites, books, etc regarding skeptic turned believer. They claim their turn around is because of something that happened to them personally, seeing with their own eyes, such as being abducted or witnessing a UFO. A skeptic would have a difficult time telling an eyewitness that they did not truly see what they saw or that it was just a banana in the sky. Some people believe in UFO's, some don't. It has never really been understood why a great many people really believe earth was the only planet to make life. There are billions of planets out there; we surely couldn't be the only ones. What could be so extremely extraordinary about this beautiful green and blue globe that would make us alone? The brilliance of this earth is indeed spectacular - how beautiful it is, lakes, rivers, the oceans, sunsets and sunrises, a thousand and one things, not even mentioning the fact that it is home.Though that still doesn't change the fact that if life happened here, the chances that it happened somewhere else are extremely high. Yes, they may be more advanced than humans from terra firma and yes maybe a visit or two has occurred. Maybe they watch humans much as humans would watch an anthill. Interested, but not disturbing the scenario. Maybe beings from another world did seed this planet and that is why there is life here. Some say that evolution stalled and an additional push was needed for homosapians to stand upright. It is interesting, possible plausible, certainly not impossible. What is known with 100 percent...
