Adults tend to pressure kids into knowing what they want to do when they grow up, as if they could see into the future, all the while compelling them to choose something promising and respectable, like a doctor or lawyer. In my case, this caused stress, doubt and utter worry. How can you know what you would like to do for the rest of your life at twelve years old, barely knowing what options are even out there? You can’t. And if you do, and you actually follow through on it until you retire, then you are a damn lucky person. I only found my possible career path at the end of my high school graduating year. If it weren’t for the work of graphic artists, products wouldn’t sell as lucratively. None of the brands would stand out form the crowd and there would be nothing to differentiate one product from another. Every color has its meaning, every font has a use, and every image has a message, all designed to draw you in. We are the con artists of the art and design world.

A less mischievous use of this field of work is to create corporate branding to help a company broadcast its image to the public and attract clients (logo, business cards, pamphlets, brochures, etc.). Businesses have come to realize how important their corporate branding is. A logo isn't just a logo; it is the icon that will symbolize the company to their clients. The fact that this awareness exists suggests that company owners would be willing to spend a few extra bucks to ensure that what they end up with truly represents the image they are going for. It is especially important because a company's logo is displayed on everything they produce, even their emails. Research has shown that smaller businesses have spent $500 to $1000 on a logo design, and larger companies have spent well over the thousand dollar mark.
