Weddings are classified as personal or life cycle events. They celebrate the union of a couple in a ceremony mostly including family and close friends. According to dictionary.com (Anon., 2014) a wedding can be defined as the act or ceremony of marrying, marriage or nuptials. Weddings are usually black tie events and call for smart and formal dress code.
Preparing a wedding will take a lot of research (Phase1 of the event management process). After communicating with the client, it seems that the wedding will be held at ‘The secret Garden’ in Sandton Johannesburg on the 11th of December 2014. The bride has informed that there will be 120 guests pax including the bride and groom. The venues large chandeliers and double French doors create a breath taking atmosphere that will ensure an elegant and sophisticated wedding. The colour theme will be lilac, silver and white, which will be cooperated throughout the wedding on items such as the table settings, wedding décor such as a lilac carpet running down the aisle, flowers, cutlery and bridesmaids dresses. The music during the ceremony will be traditional and the bride has selected ‘Here comes the bride’ as her music when she walks down the aisle. The flower décor and bouquets will be formed from lilac tulips and white lilies. As these flowers generally bloom from early spring through summer, the timing will be perfect for the wedding.
Before the reception, pictures will be taken outside the venue in the garden with the bride and groom by a professional photographer with a selection of cocktails or drinks that will be served . First close family and then friends to follow, after the guests will proceed into the reception area where the speeches will take place of family and close friends of the bride and groom. After the speeches, the bride and groom will share a dance as well as the bride and her father.
During the reception the tables will be laid with lilac table clothes, white chairs with a lilac bows tied around as well as silver cutlery and a tall flower arrangement in the centre of the table. The table styles will be banquet and filled with 12 guests at each table with a total of 12 tables. The dinner will include a course of 3 meals. The starter will include a choice of a prawn cocktail or summer green salad which will include greens with added cucumber, peppers, bean sprouts and crotons topped with feta (vegetarian option). The main meal will consist of a choice of roast lamb with potatoes and bean salad, chicken fillets with a choice of sauces potatoes and side salad, or spinach and feta ravioli in a tomato sauce (vegetarian option). For dessert, there will be a choice of chocolate mousse, Crème Brule or a cherry sorbet. All meals will be brought to guests by waiting staff. After the meals, the red velvet wedding cake will be cut and served and offered to guests as well as the bouquet toss and the garter toss. The night will be ended off with fun music and dancing...
