This essay seeks to investigate the negative and positive effects of migration in London. As the London Migration Observatory claim London has the largest number of migrants among all regions of the UK. About 37% of the UK’s foreign-born population was in London (LMO, Dr.Rienzo and Dr.Vargas-Silva). Furthermore, According to the Benton-Smith statistic, London is the 5th International city in the world after NY, Toronto, Dubai and LA.That is why I am choosing this city. This research will analyze the impacts of migration to the London in the different aspects, such as social and economy.
Paragraph 1 (economy)
To begin, I want to start by evaluating the economic factors of migration in London. Firstly, on of the positive impacts is that migration can provide specific types of jobs. From the table below we can see the statistic about the number of immigrants in the different types of job depend to how many time they live in London. By this table we see that the largest number of immigrants work in Transport and Distribution field. New professions develop economic of country in the different way.
(Gordon, Travers, Whitehead, 53)
Secondly, it is in fact that foreign born workers wage less than Non-migrant people’s wage. From the statistic that Annual Population Survey (APS) gives (table below) we actually see that Non- migrant population of London earn approximately 1.5 times more than foreign born employees. Immigrants more profitable for Government and employers because they help to economize money on paying the wage.

As I said before, immigrants are more profitable for employers; therefore they have bigger chance to receive the workplace than native people. In 1997 the UK-born employed with London workplace is 2.242 000’s and in 2006, 2.293 000’s, so the change is only 2000 people. Let’s look to the Non – UK born, in 1997, 878 000’s employed and in 2006 there 1.193 000’s people. (UK LFS) From this statistic we can see that change of employed immigrants is about 36%, of native population only 2%. It proves that migration is harmful for native people.
Paragraph 2 (Social)
