The Vindico is a novel about 5 teenagers named James, Lana, Hayden, Emily, and Sam. They get kidnapped by the League of Villains and are brought to the Vindico Mansion. Torturer, Rono, Avaria, Leni, and Silver each select a teenager to train based on their similarities in personality and ability. The kids train to become the villain’s protégés and their future generation. Baron, the mastermind villain, states that there will be severe consequences imposed if they try to escape the estate. He also lures the teenagers into joining the Vindico by offering to give them a superpower, which they can use to defeat the people who hurt them. When they arrive near the base, they creep through the forest surrounding the building until they arrive at the guest bedroom door, where they enter. They tip-toe up to the twirling staircase then turn right to see the 2 trainees, Lyla and Deanna, waiting for them. After a long fight, Thunderbolt, Deanna and Lyla are unconscious and are taken to the Vindico Mansion.
That night, Lana flees for home because she thinks she killed Septor, a hero she was fighting at the headquarters. All the mentors except Torturer and Baron go to hunt her down. Before, Baron enforced that if anyone escapes there will be severe consequences. The others were worried for Lana and wanted to protect her. Therefore, the other 4 protégés decide to try to ambush their mentors. They catch Torturer and Baron off-guard and lock them in the downstairs cell room. They make a plan to ambush the rest of the Vindico when they come back from tracking Lana. They know it will be difficult to fight them alone, so they go to wake up Lyla and Deanna to ask for their help. After a bit of protesting they agree.
