Public service personneltitle: What Is A Hero?In your opinion, what qualities should a hero always have? The fundamental qualities of a true hero are the ancient, heroic qualities: honor, courage, determination. Nothing has changed since the dawn of storytelling. We still look for the same things today in a hero. A hero should be strong enough to stand by his convictions...and smart enough to know when to follow his heart instead of his head. A hero can be flawed, but in the end, he must ultimately rise above his own human weaknesses and behave in a heroic manner, which to me means acting withintegrity and moral courage. Selflessness sounds like an easy thing, but how many of us are capable of a truly selfless act? An act purely for the benefit of another without regard to our own safety. An act which could lead to disastrous or life changing consequences. A hero cantake on many forms. Many times a hero can be defined as a person who displays a large amount of qualities that I do not have, yet I do admire. One example could be my immediate family members. They save me each day from many things. However, the best definition of a hero I can muster is one who suffers silently to make life better for others. Both the hero and the coward are afraid. Its what the hero does despite his or her fear that makes them a hero.Being a hero is being prepared to do the right thing no matter what the consequences. You don't have to be a famous character like Superman or Spiderman, and you don't have to be a policeman or fireman to be a hero. Heroes are born every day, and living among us in or everyday lives, doing tasks that many might not find glamorous.On September 11, 2001, our country faced an hour of defeat, but in that dark hour, many heroes emerged.
