An Enterprise Resource Planning System or “ERP” is a system that synchronizes all resources of a company such as procurement, production, sales, marketing, human resources, inventory control, finance, and distribution. (Katica Simunovic, 2013) This Synchronization of resources allows companies to access one software system for all aspects of the company. The Enterprise Resource Planning software constitutes a multi- billion dollar industry that produces components to support a variety of business. Once a company selects the Enterprise Resource Planning system, the company must set up project management and leadership of the project. A lack of leadership can jeopardize the implementation. (Levi Shaul, 2013) Lack of leadership can cause dysfunction and discord within the company and could possibly destroy the implementation process altogether.
Next, the company must insure that the data used in setting up the Enterprise Resource Planning system is correct. This process is also known as data management. The data management process is important, as the existence of inaccurate, incomplete, inconsistent, inaccessible data can negatively affect the implementation process. (Levi Shaul, 2013)
After the data management, process a company should implement the training process and user involvement. The attitudes of the employees are considered a key factor when determining the success or failure of the Enterprise Resource Planning system.
