Behavior in Social and Cultural Context
While I was going over my psychology book, I stop for a second on chapter 8 that that talk about Behavior in social and cultural context. This is an interesting chapter and decided to do a little research about it that. Where it talks about how we are supposed to act and enforced by threats of punishment if for any reason, if you violate them. Also, how they can reward you if you follow the rules. he also talks about The Milgram Obedience study where he explained how before used to follow the norm because they know what would happen or what punishment they would have if they violated the law. The story of the Milgram obedience experiment puts into context the exhibition of the main values of the American society within a family. People living in different countries are shaped differently by the values and cultural concept originated at the core of their population. The behavioral code of conduct of a person must do with his or her family background, the ideology that shapes the country or community of which he is part of and his own conception of the societal norm. Beliefs such as gender roles can contribute also to societal norms.
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety” (1 Timothy 2:11-15). From reading this bible verse, I gathered information that Paul was saying that women should be submissive to men. Hence, “women should learn in quietness and full submission” (1 Timothy 2:11). In modern times, gender roles are very aggressive, prejudice, and harsh. For instance, the 2017 president election involved Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Some people would love to see a woman in charge, however many also fear the thought of it. Growing up a lot of people believed in the ideology of men being superior over women. When we read in couple bible verses we can see that gender roles have been around for ages and the Bible is the eternal proof of it....
