Education today is a mix of indoctrination and education.
Although the The Merriam-Webster definition of education states that it is "the field of study that deals mainly with methods of teaching and learning in schools." In reality it is something else entirely.
When we think of education we normally think of learning a skill to get a job generally. But going through that process can entail many other things that people may not think about or be aware of at the time. Education must be accompanied with critical thinking so that it is not indoctrination. A herd opinion forms or a herd agenda is pushed to those in the education system. Views on topics such as gay marriage, guns, abortion, or the right of an individual to make their own decision on whether to smoke tobacco or use tobacco is encouraged to conform to views shared by educational institutions or even made to comply if they want to get ahead. People want to be free, even if it is the illusion of freedom the cow will produce more milk if it only thinks it is free. Such is the reality of today but slowly becoming worse.
Someone that does bring up critical scientific perspectives on issues such as global warming where the human race has changed the carbon content of the air by two hundredths of one percent questions whether that is really to blame for natural weather phenomona that could be a part of the weather cycles due to precessional shifts and cycles of the sun and the planet is shunted. While it is known that carbon dioxide will cause a warming affect how much of that is actually to blame and whether it isn't a part of the natural cycle of the earth anyway is the real question. But questions like these are not looked upon favorably by an indoctrinated school system or the system in general that dictates the educational system. Even if looked at from a scientific perspective. Obama the president of the UNITED STATES recently stated on the news that global warming is not a debate. Creating a herd type mentality that does not allow for scientific inquiry. While the reality in science is that a theory always accepts new evidence as it becomes available and the truth is that how much is to blame on human activity still remains a hypothesis.
The educational system is not tailored to an individuals needs but to the machines needs. (government and corporations). In The education politburo's child abuse: Amy Brooke calls for an end to social engineering in the classroom.(EDUCATION)
As the great American satirist H.L. Mencken wrote, the aim of public education is not "to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence ... Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim is simply to reduce to as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality." Hence the...
