RhetoricThe use of rhetoric can be found on a daily basis with different purposes. It can essentially be used whenever anybody wants to convince other people of something or expose an argument on a subject.An argument presented without rhetoric may not be an attractive proposal or idea, but with a proper use of rhetoric it can make the same argument more appealing. Rhetoric can be done with different techniques, for example, metaphor, anaphora, and hyperbole. Using these different techniques it can make the idea seem more interesting to an audience.These techniques help rhetoric to convince people to think something in particular. A hyperbole is an extreme exaggeration that will help you make a point. A metaphor is a figure of speech which makes an indirect comparison between two things that are in different extremes of the spectrum but have some characteristics in common. Lastly, anaphora is the repetition of a word or words at the beginning of sentences. It is common for us to use anaphora in our everyday to give emphasis on the idea we want to present or for affirmation.On a daily basis many people use rhetoric such as advertisers, politicians, newspaper writers, and an ordinary people. The main uses of rhetoric for an advertiser is to convince potential buyers that his product is better than the ones of his competitors. Politicians use rhetoric to convince the public that they are going to be better in power than their competitors. A person in ordinary life can also use rhetoric to convince their friends or coworkers that one particular restaurant is better than another one. Newspaper writers use rhetoric to convince readers to take their view on an issue.When we write, whether it's an email to a friend or a graduation speech, an English essay or a résumé, we face some kind of rhetorical situation. Rhetoric is not limited to writing and speech, but it happens through all media and genres. Rhetoric may be performed and appreciated in art, music, greeting cards, twitter posts, advertising, architecture, school, and others.We have a purpose, an audience, a particular tone, and a method to do it. In any situation we will have a purpose, an audience, context, a particular tone, and a rhetor, speaker, or writer. The rhetor is the person who is attempting to persuade, and the audience is the target of the persuasion. The way an audience sees the rhetor affects the argument, and this is known as ethos. The audience wants to know who they are getting information or opinion from and what his motives are and what they believe, value, and assume. This information helps the audience determine the rhetors credibility.When you communicate verbally or in writing, you need to understand your audience. Knowing who you're speaking to, helps you use the proper language. A message should be communicated different to a friend than to a professional co-worker.
