In this paper, I will describe sociology and the three main idea of sociology such as social forces, culture and social structure that I think will best explain the goals of sociology. Sociology is like the mother science which has amalgamated into it every aspect of human life. These different facets of social interactions have developed into different disciplines or subjects. Therefore, sociology is the foundation of the social sciences. All the human behavior and response are social and the subject matter of sociology ranges from the intimate family to religious; from the divisions of race, social class to the shared beliefs and values of general culture.
Social force is the first theory that I am going to discuss. Social forces are thing that influence, pressure, or push the person to interact, behave, or think in specified ways. These behaviors or responses are different based on the three main factors: history, culture, and the environment. One of the best ...view middle of the document...
We can learn the culture both directly through socialization and indirectly from observation and copying which teaches us norms, values, and beliefs. The most basic part of the culture is the language the tool that allows us to communicate to one another and transfer information. This was the most important part for a person like me who is coming from a completely different background in culture, values, language and more. Throughout the use of language, I was able to learn about a new culture and adapt new behaviors. , but language is one of the many tools that can be used to transmit culture. The most effective tool of culture is family; it is through family that you learn more about the culture, religion and values.
The third theory that I think is critical in sociology is the social structure which brings everything together. Social structure is the organized pattern of social relationships and institutions that make society. Based on our lecture material "social structure is the framework of society" The major influences on our behaviors are our culture, social class, and social status." Good example of social structure is a social class, which allows different groups to have different access to the resources of society and also forms many interactions that people have with one another. It guides and shapes human behavior at all levels and any given time. The best example for this is the video that we watched for our discussion board, in the video it showed that the people who are rich and in the higher class can find jobs much easier than the people with lower class in the society because they have many resources available to them that a person like me does not have access to, therefore, they are being treated differently in work place, school and many other social areas based on their social class. In conclusion, sociology is an exciting field of study and investigation that analyzes and explains important matters in our personal lives, communities, and the world.
