A strange map of 1513, named Piri Re, shows the Azores in the correct geographical latitude and longitude, but instead of nine islands it sows 17." The rapid rise in sea levels at the end of the last Ice Age, would have devastated the wide plains bordering the narrow Gibraltar channel. The entrance to the Mediterranean might very easily have been blocked by hundreds of mud. This then, is one explanation of the impassable mud banks beyond the Straits which Plato mentions".ANTARCTICA: Leaving the Azores and its theory, the next theory describes one pole of planet earth to be the exact location of Atlantis, and that is Antarctica. The maps of Piri Re and that of Orestius Finnaeus(1531), depict the Antarctic continent very accurately as it would be without its two-mile-thick cover of ice. Two Canadian writers, Rand and Rose Flem-Arth, argue that the once ice-free Lesser Antarctica might be the true site of Atlantis. The geographical location of Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans which is split by the continents of America and Africa. According to this theory, the melting of the ice caused the elimination of Atlantis."The earth crust displacement model proposes that the crust shifts, thus causing the Polar ice sheets to move into warmer areas. The melting of these sheets caused a global flood, until a new polar ice sheet forms."The Flem-Arths propose that the end of the Antarctic Atlantis came when the ice-caps melted catastrophically sending great tidal waves across the 'world' ocean. The proofs that once life had taken place in Antarctica can be the mammoths found in Siberia, frozen with fresh grass in their stomachs. Planet earth had an extremely abrupt 20 degrees C warming within a century. From 10,000 to 8,000 years BC, the temperatures were up to 3-4 degrees C higher than now. So when the climate was warmer, trees could grow and survive within Antarctic Circle.LOCATED IN THE MEDITERRANEAN AREA:Passing now to the opposite side of the theories and crossing the Atlantic Ocean, archeologists have concentrated on one territory, where Atlantis might is located, in Thera of Santorini in Greece.THE ERUPTION OF THERA: One of the most well known and acceptable theories about the mystery of the lost continent, is that of Thera of Santorini. "One summer, around1628 BC, the Greek island of Thera exploded with the force of thirty hydrogen bombs. The middle of the island vanished, vaporized, pulverized and ejected miles into the sky". After the explosion had taken place and the area stopped suffering of distractions, all that was left behind in the depths of the sea were ruins. Thera, is one of the small islands that...
